John Kander, Fred Ebb, and David Thompson’s 'The Scottsboro Boys' arrived at the Lyceum Theatre in 2010 after a celebrated Off-Broadway run at the Vineyard Theatre, running for an accomplished commercial residency and capturing twelve major Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. Conceived as a highly innovative, historically urgent musical drama masterpiece, the narrative structures its historical critique by framing the real-life 1931 false rape accusations and structural trials of nine Black teenagers within the theatrical mechanics of a traditional minstrel show. Directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman.
