Conceived as a highly innovative, historically urgent musical drama masterpiece, the narrative structures its historical critique by framing the real-life 1931 false rape accusations and structural trials of nine Black teenagers within the theatrical mechanics of a traditional minstrel show. Directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman.
