George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber’s 'The Royal Family' stands as an undisputed champion of Broadway high-comedy literature, universally celebrated for providing a delightfully wicked, thin-veiled lampoon of the legendary Barrymore acting dynasty. The breathless farcical plot turns a luxurious duplex apartment corridor into a hyper-kinetic minefield of door-slamming entrances, sudden print scoops, and tactical romantic deceptions as a family of actors fights to maintain their professional autonomy against corporate pressures. Most famously revived in Manhattan Theatre Club’s multi-Tony-winning 2009 Broadway production.
