James Thurber and Elliott Nugent’s classic college comedy masterpiece 'The Male Animal' received a spectacular, multi-Tony Award-winning Broadway revival at the City Center Theatre in 1952, subsequently transferring to the Music Box Theatre for an astonishing 317 performances. The fast-paced farcical plot unfolds over a single high-stakes football homecoming weekend at a Midwestern university, tracking a mild-mannered literature professor whose stable marriage and academic position enter an existential crisis when he insists on reading a radical anarchist's essay to his class. Directed by Michael Gordon, the production starred Elliott Nugent and Robert Preston.
