Alfred Uhry’s spectacular, Tony Award-winning dramatic masterpiece 'The Last Night of Ballyhoo' arrived at the Helen Hayes Theatre in 1997, running for an astonishing 528 performances and capturing Best Play. Set in the affluent country-club landscape of Atlanta, Georgia in December 1939 on the exact weekend *Gone with the Wind* premieres, the textually rich comedy-drama charts the Freitag clan, a highly assimilated German-Jewish family whose stable household enters an ideological crisis over social climbing, repressed cultural identity, and prejudice when a traditional assistant arrives from Brooklyn. Directed by Ron Lagomarsino, the premiere starred Dana Ivey.
