John Kander, Fred Ebb, and N. Richard Nash’s 'The Happy Time' arrived at the Broadway Theatre in 1968, running for an accomplished 286 performances and capturing three major Tony Awards including Best Actor and Best Director. Set inside a provincial French-Canadian village in the 1920s, the heart-filled musical comedy follows Jacques Bonnard, a flamboyant, world-traveling international photographer who returns to his eccentric hometown, launching a romantic disruption when he attempts to induct his impressionable teenage nephew into his care-free bohemian lifestyle. Directed and choreographed with cinematic fluid precision by Gower Champion, the production starred Robert Goulet and David Wayne.
