Sigmund Romberg, Leo Robin, and Jerome Chodorov’s 'The Girl in the Pink Tights' brought an opulent, grand-scale musical comedy extravaganza to the Mark Hellinger Theatre in 1954, running for an accomplished commercial engagement. Set in New York City in 1866, the brilliant backstage plot fictionalizes the real-life historical creation of America's very first musical, *The Black Crook*, tracking an elite French ballet troupe who team up with a stranded melodrama company to stage a spectacular performance, scored to Romberg's final symphonic orchestrations. Directed by Shepard Traube, the production starred French dance icon Zizi Jeanmaire alongside Charles Goldner.
