The Foreigner (2004)

Larry Shue’s classic American comedy 'The Foreigner' received a powerful, highly celebrated Broadway revival at the American Airlines Theatre in 2004 under the auspices of the Roundabout Theatre Company. The fast-paced farcical plot unfolds inside a rustic fishing lodge in rural Georgia, tracking Charlie Baker, a pathologically shy, boring English proofreader who is left at the lodge by his friend and falsely passed off as a non-English-speaking foreigner to secure absolute privacy, accidentally becoming privy to a hilarious series of Ku Klux Klan blackmail schemes and secret affairs. Directed by Scott Ellis, the production starred Matthew Broderick and Frances Sternhagen.
