Gore Vidal’s brilliant satirical high comedy 'Romulus' completed a celebrated original Broadway premiere run at the Music Box Theatre in 1962, running for an accomplished 69 performances under the grand direction of Joseph Anthony. Expertly adapting Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s classic Swiss avant-garde drama *Romulus the Great*, the fast-paced farcical plot follows Romulus, the eccentric final Emperor of Rome, who pathologically ignores imperial crown politics and military crises to quietly breed chickens on his estate, willfully allowing his empire to collapse. The historic production starred Cyril Ritchard.
