William F. Brown’s zany mid-century drawing-room comedy farce 'Peterpat' completed a celebrated original Broadway premiere run at the historic Longacre Theatre in 1965, running for an accomplished commercial residency under the banner of producer David Black. The fast-paced farcical plot centers on an eccentric young Manhattan couple—a writer of pulp detective fiction and his independent wife—whose stable household enters an immediate farcical crisis when their shifting romantic expectations and domestic alignments collapse into a hilarious, whiskey-fueled battle of the sexes. Directed by Joan Littlewood, it starred Dick Shawn.
