Budd Schulberg and Stan Silverman’s stage adaptation of 'On the Waterfront' completed an ambitious Broadway run at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in 1995, remaining a prized, textually raw document for historical collectors. Translating Schulberg's own iconic, multi-Oscar-winning cinematic dramatic masterpiece directly onto the stage, the claustrophobic narrative unfolds along the gritty, winter-bound shipping docks of Hoboken, New Jersey, tracking Terry Malloy, a broken young longshoreman who faces a brutal psychological crisis when he must choose whether to break the dock worker code and testify against a corrupt labor union boss. Directed by Schulberg.
