The 2008 City Center Encores! production of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green’s 'On the Town' brought a thrilling, vocally staggering, and critically adored concert revival of the 1944 masterpiece to the New York stage. Directed by John Rando with high-stepping choreography by Warren Carlyle, this high-profile staging focused with symphonic clarity on Bernstein’s full classical orchestrations, stripping away decadal excess to celebrate the brassy show tune standards. The short-run blockbuster production achieved immense profile due to its young ensemble cast, starring Tony Yazbeck, Justin Bohon, and Christian Borle.
