Ernest Thompson’s classic American family comedy-drama masterpiece 'On Golden Pond' permanently altered the commercial landscape during its historic 1979 Broadway premiere at the New Century Theatre, running for an astonishing 416 performances. The textually rich, heart-filled narrative unfolds inside a rustic summer lake cottage in Maine, tracking Norman and Ethel Thayer, an aging elderly couple who spend their forty-eighth summer navigating Norman’s failing memory and health, disrupted by the arrival of their estranged daughter. Directed by Craig Anderson, the legendary premiere starred Tom Aldredge and Frances Sternhagen.
