Victor Herbert and Rida Johnson Young’s legendary 1910 operetta masterpiece 'Naughty Marietta' completed an extensive national touring company production that brought a grand-scale, melody-infused historical romance directly to major regional houses across North America in 1936. The sophisticated plot unfolds inside the lush colonial outpost of New Orleans, Louisiana in 1780, tracking Countess Marietta, a fiercely independent French aristocrat who flees an engineered high-society marriage and disguises herself as a ship girl, falling into a romance with a handsome captain, introducing the standard "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life."
