This authentic vintage window card poster promotes the 1972 Broadway revival of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing at the Winter Garden Theatre. Produced by Joseph Papp and the New York Shakespeare Festival (with associate producer Bernard Gersten), this acclaimed production transferred to Broadway following its run at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Directed by A. J. Antoon with music by Peter Link and choreography by Donald Saddler, the turn-of-the-century American setting starred Sam Waterston as Benedick, Kathleen Widdoes as Beatrice, Barnard Hughes as Dogberry, and Douglass Watson as Don Pedro. The award-nominated creative team featured scenic design by Ming Cho Lee, costume design by Theoni V. Aldredge, and lighting design by Martin Aronstein. Printed on sturdy cardstock in the standard 14x22-inch display format, this original promotional piece was designed for display in local storefronts and venue windows. Tailored for Shakespearean theater archivists, New York Shakespeare Festival historians, and vintage Broadway window card collectors, this artifact documents a landmark 1970s Broadway staging.
