Irving Berlin and Robert E. Sherwood’s 'Miss Liberty' completed an extensive 1950 national touring company production that brought the high-stepping patriotism and champagne-flavored brilliance of the Broadway flagship directly to major houses across North America. Set in New York and Paris in 1885 during the high-stakes fundraising campaign to construct the Statue of Liberty, the fast-paced musical comedy follows a naive young photographer who travels to France to locate the woman who served as Bartholdi's artistic model, collapsing into farcical deceptions. Directed under Gower Champion's choreography blueprints, the tour achieved massive success.
