Set inside the segregated rhythm-and-blues underground clubs of Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950s, the emotionally massive musical drama follows Huey Calhoun, an eccentric, fast-talking white radio disc jockey who risks institutional violence to broadcast Black music to mainstream teen audiences, falling into a forbidden romance with a club singer. Directed by Christopher Ashley with choreography by Sergio Trujillo, it starred Chad Kimball.
