An original 1985 cultural exhibition poster designed by celebrated American graphic artist Paul Davis for "Liz: The Films of Elizabeth Taylor," a retrospective film series presented by theatrical producer Joseph Papp at The Public Theater (425 Lafayette Street, New York City).
During the 1970s and 1980s, the New York Shakespeare Festival / Public Theater expanded beyond stage plays to run an influential repertory film program curated by Fabiano Canosa. This engagement paid homage to Elizabeth Taylor's screen legacy, drawing cinephiles and theatergoers to downtown Manhattan. Paul Davis, who served as art director and resident poster designer for Papp’s Public Theater, rendered Taylor’s likeness in his signature folk-modernist portraiture style, capturing her striking gaze, classic 1950s bouffant, and timeless glamour.
