Michael Bennett, Ralph Allen, and David Campbell’s whimsical 1986 Broadway musical comedy 'Honky Tonk Nights' completed a brief run at the historic Biltmore Theatre, remaining an essential rarity for scholars tracking lost musical books. The fast-paced, rhythmically rich narrative charts the turbulent, fifty-year evolution of early Black vaudeville showmanship between 1910 and 1960, moving from a smoke-filled saloon in Hell's Kitchen to a high-society theatrical palace in Harlem, scored to an upbeat ragtime and jazz score. Directed by Ernest O. Flatt, the spectacular production featured an elite ensemble cast led by Joe Morton.
