Michael Korie, Scott Frankel, and John Weidman’s 'Happiness' arrived Off-Broadway at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in 2009 as an exceptionally unique, musically rich highlight of the contemporary theatrical season. Conceived as a highly stylized concept musical that adapts classic allegorical motifs, the narrative tracks an eccentric collection of completely disparate New York transit passengers who find themselves trapped inside a mysterious, stationary subway car in the afterlife, forced by a celestial conductor to look back and evaluate the single happiest moment of their lives. Directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, the production starred Hunter Foster.
