The celebrated 1960 Off-Broadway musical revue 'Greenwich Village, U.S.A.' opened to critical adulation at the historic One Sheridan Square theater, running for an accomplished 120 performances. Conceived as a high-stepping, jazz-infused satirical celebration of bohemian counterculture, the episodic performance completely discarded traditional linear book formatting to deliver a series of hilarious sketches and torch songs lampooning beatnik poets, abstract expressionist artists, and uptown tourists who converge on the Village. Directed by Jeanne Weychel with an upbeat melodic score by Jeanne DeWalden, the historic original cast featured a young, breakout performance by comedic icon Joan Rivers.
