The fast-paced farcical plot centers on Newton Fuller, a high-strung Manhattan businessman who succumbs to a romantic urge for rustic country living by secretly purchasing a crumbling, completely dilapidated colonial farmhouse in rural Pennsylvania, collapsing into frantic panic when his sophisticated wife discovers the home lacks water, roads, and modern plumbing. Directed by Kaufman, the historic original cast was led by Ernest Truex and Jean Dixon.
