John Rodney and Rodney Ackland’s eccentric comedy 'Farewell, Farewell Eugene' completed a celebrated 1960 Broadway engagement at the Helen Hayes Theatre. The lighthearted farcical plot centers on two elderly, fiercely puritanical maiden sisters residing in a cluttered Manhattan brownstone who spend their days singing hymns and selling homemade greeting cards to raise travel funds to visit their beloved brother Eugene in Africa, collapsing into frantic panic when an unexpected infant is left on their doorstep on the eve of their departure. Directed by Ronald Winston, the production famously starred international comedy icon Margaret Rutherford, featuring the cartoon art of George Price.
