Eugène Ionesco’s classic absurdist comedy 'Exit the King' received a powerful, highly celebrated Broadway revival at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 2009 under the auspices of the Malthouse Theatre and Company B, capturing multiple major Tony Awards. The witty, textually rich farcical narrative charts the absolute collapse of an empire, tracking King Berenger, a centuries-old, completely unprincipled monarch who refuses to accept the announcement from his wives that his kingdom is crumbling and that he will die at the end of the execution play.
