Frank Peppiatt and John Aylesworth’s short-lived 1989 biographical musical comedy 'Durante' infamously collapsed, encountered critical hostility, and closed during its out-of-town pre-Broadway tryout engagement at Los Angeles’s Shubert Theatre, never reaching New York. Featuring a brassy score expanded with his signature standards, the narrative chronicles the real-life rise, financial ruins, and global Hollywood showmanship of legendary comedian Jimmy "Schnozzola" Durante as he battles his way from Coney Island piano rooms to international icon status. Directed by Ernest O. Flatt, the production starred Lonny Price in a tour-de-force lead performance as Durante, preserved here.
