Oscar winner Steve Tesich’s zany farcical comedy 'Division Street' turned the stage of the Ambassador Theatre into a fast-paced arena of screwball satire in 1980. The breathless plot centers on Chris, a once-famous, deeply burned-out 1960s radical political activist who flees to a gritty apartment in Chicago to live an anonymous, quiet life as a conventional office clerk, collapsing into frantic panic when a front-page photograph exposes his identity, triggering an invasion of eccentric old cohorts, militant black militants, and undercover cops. Directed with signature comedic wit by Tom Moore, the production starred John Lithgow, Keene Curtis, and Christine Lahti.
