Eugene O'Neill’s deeply serious, highly controversial Catholic psychological drama 'Days Without End' was mounted by the Theatre Guild at the Henry Miller's Theatre in 1934. Conceived as a major, daring experimental risk that discarded traditional linear tracking, the intense plot centers on John Loving, a brilliant but deeply conflicted man wrestling with profound spiritual fractures, infidelity guilt, and a loss of faith. To explicitly stage his psychological torment, O'Neill splits the character by employing a second, masked actor to portray his cynical, pathologically detached alter-ego, Loving. Directed by Philip Moeller, the historic production starred Earle Larimore and Stanley Ridges.
