Edmond Rostand’s classic French verse tragedy 'Cyrano de Bergerac' received a powerful, visually magnificent Broadway revival at the American Airlines Theatre in 2012 under the auspices of the Roundabout Theatre Company. Masterfully translated and adapted by Anthony Burgess, the sweeping narrative tracks Cyrano, a brilliant poet-soldier possessing a razor-sharp wit, immense martial courage, and an impossibly large nose that causes him to hide his desperate love for his beautiful cousin Roxane by ghostwriting passionate romantic letters for a handsome but dim-witted cadet. Directed with crisp precision by Jamie Lloyd, the acclaimed production starred Douglas Hodge in a tour-de-force performance alongside Clémence Poésy.
