Donald Margulies’s Pulitzer Prize-finalist drama 'Collected Stories' is an elegant, deeply bittersweet examination of artistic ownership, mentorship, and the heavy price of literary ambition. Spanning six turbulent years inside a sophisticated Greenwich Village apartment, the intimate narrative follows the volatile relationship between Ruth Steiner, an established, fiercely private short-story writer, and Lisa Morrison, her adoring young student who transforms from an insecure protégé into a major literary star, culminating in a devastating betrayal when Lisa publishes a novel based on Ruth's private life. Staged by Manhattan Theatre Club at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in 2010 under the direction of Lynn Meadow, the pristine revival starred Linda Lavin and Sarah Paulson.
