Celebration (1969, repro)

Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s 'Celebration' completed its celebrated original Broadway premiere run at the Ambassador Theatre in 1969, running for an accomplished 109 performances to capture the hearts of late-century lyric theater scholars. Conceived as a highly stylized, avant-garde contemporary musical fable allegory driven note-for-note by a melody-infused acoustic score, the minimalistic chamber plot follows an young orphan youth who battles a corrupt, pathologically demanding multi-million dollar corporate tycoon.
