Harvey Fierstein’s 'Casa Valentina' arrived at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in 2014 as a brilliant, deeply moving, and Tony-nominated Manhattan Theatre Club highlight exploring gender identity, secrecy, and societal conformity. Set in 1962 inside a hidden, rustic bungalow resort in the Catskill Mountains, the factual drama chronicles a secret, tight-knit weekend sanctuary where a group of heterosexual, middle-class professional men—including corporate executives and lawyers—converge to escape their ordinary lives by cross-dressing as women, collapsing into crisis when a political choice threatens to expose their sanctuary. Directed by Joe Mantello, the powerhouse ensemble starred Reed Birney, John Cullum, Patrick Page, and Gabriel Ebert.
