The heavily revised, textually rich 2012 Off-Broadway revival of Michael Gore, Dean Pitchford, and Lawrence D. Cohen’s 'Carrie' completely rejuvenated the legendary property under the banner of MCC Theater at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Stripping away 1980s operetic excess to construct a sleek, hyper-focused, and psychologically raw look at contemporary high school bullying, cyber-cruelty, and religious mania, the production beautifully salvaged the musical's score. Directed by Stafford Arima with visceral choreography by Matt Williams, the acclaimed production starred Molly Ranson in a luminous performance as Carrie alongside Marin Mazzie’s terrifyingly effective Margaret White.
