Jonathan Tolins’ 'Buyer & Cellar' arrived Off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre in 2013, standing as an absolute comedic tour-de-force phenomenon that ran for over a year and won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show. The brilliantly witty, fictional plot tracks Alex More, a struggling, underemployed gay Hollywood actor who scores an incredibly bizarre day job: working as the sole shopkeeper managing the private, underground replica shopping mall built inside the basement of international superstar Barbra Streisand’s Malibu estate. Directed by Stephen Brackett, the production was a virtuoso vehicle for Michael Urie in a legendary performance.
