Set in a crowded Brooklyn home in 1949, the narrative tracks young Eugene Morris Jerome and his older brother Stanley as they attempt to break into professional show business by writing a comedy script for NBC radio, collapsing into crisis when their broadcast broadcast exposes the painful, fracturing secrets of their parents' marriage. Directed by Gene Saks, the historic original production was anchored by a Tony-winning performance from Linda Lavin alongside Jonathan Silverman and Jason Alexander.
