Mark Schoenfeld’s 'Brooklyn: The Musical' tracks an immersive street concert performed by an eccentric troupe of homeless vocalists known as the "City Weeds" under the iron scaffolding of an urban set design. Staged at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in 2004 under the direction of Jeff Calhoun, the high-energy production follows a beautiful young French orphan girl named Brooklyn who travels to New York City to find her long-lost father, finding herself thrust into a high-stakes singing competition against a jaded local diva. The production serves as an extraordinary showcase for the powerhouse pop-rock vocals of Eden Espinosa, Ramona Keller, and Cleavant Derricks.
