Mark Schoenfeld and Barri McPherson’s pop-rock vocal extravaganza 'Brooklyn: The Musical' arrived at the Plymouth Theatre in 2004 (subsequently renamed the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre) as a gritty, high-energy Broadway fairy tale. Conceived as an immersive street concert performed by an eccentric troupe of homeless vocalists known as the "City Weeds," the meta-theatrical plot centers on a beautiful young French orphan girl named Brooklyn who travels to a gritty New York City to find her long-lost father, finding herself thrust into a high-stakes singing competition against a jaded local diva. Directed by Jeff Calhoun, the production served as an extraordinary showcase for Eden Espinosa in her career-launching lead performance.
