The historic original spring 2013 pre-Broadway world premiere tryout engagement of Andrew Lippa and John August’s 'Big Fish' opened at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre. Serving as the vital, grand-scale incubator for the massive musical fantasy, this out-of-town run allowed director-choreographer Susan Stroman to test her inventive staging, giant puppet illusions, and Lippa's orchestral score before a live audience before moving to New York. Starring Norbert Leo Butz and Kate Baldwin in their early, developing iterations of Edward and Sandra Bloom, the musical charts a traveling salesman's sweeping tall tales.
