The acclaimed 2004 Off-Broadway premiere of 'Belle Époque' serves as a striking, visually magnificent dance-theater masterpiece conceived and directed by the legendary avant-garde pioneer, Martha Clarke. Staged by Lincoln Center Theater at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, the lyrical, non-linear dramatic mosaic uses a book co-written with Charles L. Mee to bring the vibrant, debauched, and tragic creative world of 19th-century French painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec to living stage life. Set inside a sultry Montmartre brothel and the Moulin Rouge, the production seamlessly blended modern dance with classical text, starring Mark Povinelli as Toulouse-Lautrec alongside an elite dance ensemble.
