The short-lived and highly fascinating 1960 Broadway musical comedy 'Beg, Borrow and Steal' was mounted at the Martin Beck Theatre. Featuring an inventive, jazz-fused score by Leon Pober and a witty book and lyrics co-written by Bud Freeman and comedy dramatist Marvin Seiger, the production is a broad farce set inside a colorful, beatnik-era coffee house in New York's Greenwich Village. The plot follows a group of eccentric, anti-establishment poets and artists who orchestrate a hilarious series of small-time deceptions to pay their rent and escape a local detective.
