An American in Paris (Broadway)
Choose options
The original 2015 Broadway premiere of 'An American in Paris' completely transfigured the traditional musical landscape by translating the classic 1951 Gene Kelly film into a magnificent, high-art symphonic ballet at the Palace Theatre. Featuring an iconic George and Ira Gershwin score, the plot transposes the romance to a raw, bruised post-WWII Paris struggling to rebuild its identity in the immediate shadow of the Nazi occupation, tracking an American veteran soldier who chooses to stay behind to paint, falling into a complex love triangle with a beautiful French ballerina. Directed and choreographed with breathtaking fluidity by Christopher Wheeldon, the production starred ballet luminaries Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope, winning four Tony Awards.
