Featuring a delightfully macabre, music-hall style score by Peter Golub, the production opened at the Perry Street Theatre in 1992, bringing Gorey’s distinct, cross-hatched worlds of Victorian dread, polite eccentricities, and bizarre demises to living stage life. The episodic plot sketches out a parade of Edwardian oddities, featuring tap-dancing orphans, melancholic opera divas, and mysterious beasts, guided by Gorey’s own hand-drawn blueprints.
