Lisa D'Amour’s vibrant, deeply atmospheric drama 'Airline Highway' offers a rich, ensemble-driven portrait of the marginalized outcasts, sex workers, and poets who occupy the fringes of contemporary New Orleans. Set in the gravel parking lot of the crumbling Hummingbird Motel along a gritty industrial highway, the plot unfolds over a single weekend as the residents gather to throw a raucous, jazz-infused living funeral for Miss Tammy, a legendary burlesque performer and matriarch of their chosen family. Directed by Joe Mantello for Manhattan Theatre Club at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in 2015, the production featured a powerhouse cast including K. Todd Freeman, Julie White, and Judith Roberts.
