James Lapine’s elegant, epic theatrical adaptation of Moss Hart’s classic autobiography 'Act One' serves as a magnificent love letter to the romantic, gritty era of early 20th-century American theater. Utilizing a spectacular, multi-tiered rotating set at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater in 2014, the production employed three distinct actors to portray the legendary playwright and director at various stages of his life, tracing his impoverished youth in the Bronx to his historic, chaotic collaboration with the eccentric George S. Kaufman on Once in a Lifetime. Tony Shalhoub delivered a virtuoso performance in a triple role as the elder Hart, his father, and Kaufman, alongside Santino Fontana and Andrea Martin.
